Shuaib Mitchell is a graduate of Howard University (Washington, DC) where he studied film and television production under an esteemed faculty that included internationally acclaimed filmmaker Haile Gerima. He began his professional career at C-SPAN, where he later directed the live nationally televised viewer call-in shows. His independent filmmaking career was launched in 1992 with the one-hour documentary film, Straight Up Go Go, which he produced and directed. The documentary, which examines the culture and history of Washington, DC’s “Go-Go” music, was distributed internationally by ATA Trading Corp. and has aired numerous times on PBS Television. In 1999, Brother Shuaib completed a feature length screenplay entitled A Rose By Any Other Name for which he won several awards, including the prestigious Larry Neal Writer’s Award (1999), the DC Screenwriter’s Competition (2000), and the Maryland State Individual Artist Award (2001). The “coming of age” love story has two well known “Hollywood actors attached and is targeted for production in 2016. In 2007 Brother Shuaib directed and produced his first narrative feature length motion picture entitled “Too Saved”. The "faith-based" romantic comedy was acquired in 2009 by Maverick Entertainment Group, Inc. for world-wide distribution and has received numerous awards including the prestigious DoveFamily-ApprovedSeal (receiving a 4-star rating), “Best Narrative Film” at the 1st Annual North Carolina Family Film Festival (2011), “Best Film” (2nd Place) at the 1st Annual KingdomWood Christian Film Festival, Atlanta, GA (2008), and a nomination forBest Religious Film” at the 5th Annual San Diego Black Film Festival (2008). In addition, the film received official selections into a number of prestigious film festivals around the world including, the 16th Annual Pan African Film Festival, Los Angeles, CA. (2008), and the 11th Annual Urbanworld/Vibe Film Festival, New York, NY (2007).

Brother Shuaib’s latest film is a feature length motion picture entitled “Nocturnal Agony”. The “faith-based” drama has won several awards including the prestigious 2014 TIVA-DC Bronze Peer Award (for Independent Feature), the 26th Annual Larry Neal Writer’s Award, and the 14th Annual Fade-In Awards Screenplay Competition (quarter-finalist). The film stars veteran Hollywood actors Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs, Vernee' Watson, Rae'Ven Larrymore Kelly and Grammy winning gospel recording artist Hezekiah Walker. Nocturnal Agony is being released world-wide on DVD/VOD by Anointed Pictures, LLC and Maverick Entertainment Group, Inc. The film is currently available in Red-Box and various other retail outlets and will be available in WalMart on June 2, 2015.

Brother Shuaib is a recipient of the
Howard University Alumni Association (HUAA) Golden Bison Award as an Outstanding Howard University Alumnus in the field of entertainment. Mr. Mitchell was honored among 32 other distinguished Howard University Alumni from various fields including Aviation, Medicine, Public Service, Religion, Business and Entertainment.
