Catapulting beyond the box of traditional Gospel and Christian Contemporary genres, JAQI has redefined the voice of Inspirational music. Marrying clearly stated lyrics with aggressive yet soulful melodies and rhythms, JAQI leaves no room for misinterpretation. Her debut album entitled “just JAQI”, is a delectable blend of urban musical styling and powerful lyrical artistry.
Born in the Nation’s Capital, Washington, DC, JAQI attributes an essential part of her artistic growth and development to her collegiate experience at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she studied and performed with many accomplished musicians, including jazz trumpeter, Wynton Marsalis under the direction of world-renowned jazz clarinetist, the late-great Alvin Batiste. It was, however, the divine spiritual awakening after college that transformed JAQI’s song and redefined her life. After accepting her God-given calling, JAQI has received many incredible performance opportunities. JAQI was blessed to be featured as a New Artist on the 2010 Radio One Love Gospel Cruise. Additionally, JAQI had the privilege of performing at one of the Inaugural balls during the 2008 Inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington, DC. Later that same year, JAQI was also granted the honor of opening for R&B crooner, Jeffrey Osborne in Baton Rouge, LA. Furthermore, JAQI was recently
blessed to have two of her songs (“So Excited” and “Finally”) featured on the soundtrack of the new feature length motion picture “Nocturnal Agony”. The film stars Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Vernee Watson, Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs, Rae’Ven Larrymore Kelly, Deidra LaWan Starnes, and Malachi Malik and is slated for release in Summer/Fall 2012.
JAQI has been described as a very unique artist that promises to vocally
soothe, while challenging you mentally and spiritually. Simply stated—
